The Art of Valérie Buess

The first time I saw the work of Swiss-born artist Valérie Buess, my heart skipped a beat.  These sublime pieces are impeccably crafted in porcelain, balanced atop a wire inset on a wooden base. Every detail is elegantly addressed, and the the calming, expressive faces of her figures are remarkable. I have one of Valérie's sculptures, and it is my favorite piece in my art collection.

Now living in Germany,  Valérie began crafting these angels 10 years ago.  She says "The flying guardian angel may sway gently on the wire attached to the wooden stand; when it does, maybe it is protecting you or someone close by."

As I glance at the little figurine perched on my desk, moving in the breeze, I like to believe that is true. Very true.
