Caroline Colom Vásquez and José Vásquez-Corbalan have been designing together since the day they met in Austin, Texas. Hailing from opposite ends of the globe (Caroline from historic Mystic, Connecticut, and José from the romantic city of Buenos Aires, Argentina), the two fell in love at first sight, but soon discovered a shared passion; their courtship included many evenings spent sketching designs and ideas onto cocktail napkins, and long weekends full of crafting their ideas from whatever materials they could find. Both entrepreneurs and dreamers at heart, the pair vowed to someday run a business together offering their design work to clients around the world. By marrying Caroline’s love of ceramics and design with José’s talents in woodworking and fine craftsmanship, the two settled in Austin and made that dream a reality. Paloma’s Nest was founded in 2007 and is a family-run business named after their daughter, Paloma (whose name means “dove” in Spanish). The brand creates timeless, heirloom-quality pieces intended to be cherished and passed on to future generations.
Proud to have been named one of the “Best Online Shopping Sites” by InStyle Magazine, the Paloma's Nest collection offers keepsake gifts for weddings, babies, holidays, and all of life’s special occasions, as well as home furnishings and decor. The line is entirely handcrafted with the brand’s signature timeless elegance, from the finest natural materials available: porcelain and clay, wood, paper, and cloth. Every Paloma's Nest piece - no matter the material - is hand cut, free form, with no pattern, with every single tiny letter of text hand stamped, one by one. A gift from Paloma’s Nest instantly becomes a Modern Heirloom to be treasured for years to come; each is designed to be just as beautiful in 100 years as it is today. When not handcrafting the collection you see here in the shop, Caroline and Jose are busy working as product designers, creating exclusive collections for retailers and global brands.
Paloma's Nest became known for the conception of the Ring Bearer Bowl™, a design that debuted to much international acclaim in 2008, gracing the pages of renowned publications like Martha Stewart Weddings, The Knot, and Brides Magazine. This tiny ceramic dish is intended to replace the ring "pillow" in a wedding celebration, and has created a new tradition in ceremonies around the world- becoming a lasting standard in the modern wedding ceremony and a new form of family heirloom.
Caroline and José share their passion for small creative business with other entrepreneurs through Handcrafted Consulting. The duo specializes in customized education on the marketing, growth and management of online business, offering personal mentoring and group workshops worldwide.
Paloma's Nest is rooted in quality and tradition; with this intent, Caroline and José look forward to creating Modern Heirlooms for you and yours, for many years to come. Thank you for your interest.
