Paloma's Nest - Stories to Tell

My new favorite discovery is the brand Fabelab, out of Denmark.  Designed by mother and architect Michaela W-B, the product line includes blankets that fold up into origami-like birds, a duvet that morphs into butterfly wings, and- coming soon- a play mat that folds into a boat. Pure genius!

Be sure to check out this beautiful family-run company and their website at Fabelab, and on Instagram at @fabelabdk!

With These Rings: A 'Make Your Own Wedding Rings' Shop in Seattle

When I was contacted by Stephanie of With These Rings, a Seattle-based jewelry shop, about selling some of our Ring Bowls in her store, I was instantly intrigued by the "make your own rings" concept she was describing to me. Yes- you read that correctly: make your own RINGS! Stephanie is a professional jeweler who was inspired by the process she and her own husband went through when crafting their wedding rings much so, that she turned this inspiration into a workshop-type process that allows couples to learn, under her supervision, how to design and craft rings of their very own. I am thrilled that With These Rings will be stocking pieces from our collection in the Seattle shop, and so glad to share Stephanie's unique concept with you.

Family Dolls by Timohandmade

The Christmas I was pregnant with Valentín, José surprised me with the most thoughtful gift: a set of three dolls by Israeli designer Timor Cohen, of Timohandmade. The father, expectant mother, and little girl soft sculptures sit here on the sunny windowsill in my office, and bring a smile to my face when I think back to those precious, fleeting days. A visit to Timohandmade will leave you smiling, too- the shop is full of darling personalities of all shapes and sizes, as well as some lovely decorations and stuffed animals. You can request custom dolls to reflect your own crew, or choose from the wonderful variety of vintage and rare textile art already for sale.

Heirloom Lion Blanket by Roxy Marj

We fondly refer to Valentín as our Little Lion... partly because of his blonde curly mane, and partly because of his ferocious ROAR,  which he proudly demonstrates upon request. Since he was quite young, I've collected special decor, art pieces and holiday ornaments as a special mementos for him.

When I first saw this Heirloom Blanket from Roxy Marj, I was smitten. But this is clearly a common reaction in lots of folks: these beautiful keepsakes are individually handmade and hand painted, and sell out super fast! I have yet to get my claws on one, but be sure to follow @roxymarj on instagram where you can see more from the illustrator/fashion designer (and grad of Parsons)...she will give a heads-up as to when she will have more blankets available in her shop. (There is also a tiger and a bear!) Careful, you may have to fight me for one!

Mushybooks: Modern Baby Books

I admit it.

Valentín is two years old and I haven't started his baby book. (GASP!)

Maybe he falls victim to being the "second child" (we know how that goes), or maybe I can blame technology for the fact that most all of his baby pictures live in digital format. But I think much of it has to do with not being able to find a well-designed, timeless Baby Book to use as his special keepsake. I'm picky like that.

Until now.

I discovered MushyBooks on Instagram one day and instantly felt a kindred connection the brand: like Paloma's Nest, MushyBooks is creating products that don't scream "cutesy-baby-overload" and instead focus on clean, classic style that will still be beautiful long into the future. A simple white cover is detailed with baby feet, and the book is filled with well-designed pages for all of the essentials: a family tree, baby's first haircut, favorite things...

MushyBooks was created and run by mom-to-three Lesley in British Columbia, Canada. I'm headed over to her site to order one today!

RS Ceramics: The Work of Reinaldo Sanguino

We recently returned from the NY Now international gift show in New York City, where we displayed our collection for the first time. We were amazed and encouraged by the vast creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of so many business owners and designer/makers. We loved seeing many industry friends putting their work out there and making it all happen, like Dunes & Duchess, and Kreeger Pottery, just to name a few.

A new discovery for us was the work of Reinaldo Sanguino of RS Ceramics. Based in New York City, Reinaldo creates a collection of ceramic stools that I just can not seem to get out of my mind. Each piece is different from the next, and is a beautiful blend of form and function. Visit his gallery site and see for yourself- I bet your imagination will be swimming with ideas of the perfect spot for one of these sculptures.

Were you at the NY Now show? What were some of your favorite finds?
