Notes from the Studio: A Lesson in Patience

Posted on June 06, 2012

I don't think I took a breath the whole time. My eyes were watering, and I needed to blink. But this lesson in concentration and patience is one I love dearly. A true test in mastering my craft. A challenge in the quest for "perfection." I look forward to these moments as a creator.

Lovingly hand stamped, one tiny letter at time, this bowl spells out the wedding vows a couple will share with one another next month. This bowl will be displayed and cherished in their home. Their children will one day learn to read the words. Their grandchildren will save it as a reminder of their love. Their great grandchildren will ask to hear the story of this bowl.

Creating heirlooms is our passion. Crafting pieces that will be as beautiful in 100 years as they are today is our inspiration. What inspires the work you do?

The Art of Sheila Bobeldijk: Sibo Designs

Posted on April 12, 2012

I stopped in my tracks the other day when I stumbled upon Sibo Designs through a mention on Twitter. I admit it, we get spoiled by beauty and creativity daily in the wedding industry- so much that it sometimes feels like eye candy over-load. But one glance at the veils and other designs by Sheila Bobeldijk, and I could tell that this was something very special.

Sibo Designs is based in The Netherlands. If you've ever roamed the streets of any city there or in neighboring Belgium, its easy to see where the art of lace making has its roots. The Lowlands have produced some of the worlds' finest textiles for hundreds of years. I love how Sheila's designs feel very rooted in that tradition, crafted of beautiful, quality materials and embellishments. Visit her shop and galleries, and find that she creates styles for every type of bride. Your eyes will thank you for that bit of candy.

Springtime and Easter at Paloma's Nest

Posted on March 17, 2012

Spring has arrived here in Austin! We have been graced with warm breezes and sunshine, and are cherishing the mild days -while the grass is still green- before the heat of the summer sets in. Here in the studio we have been enjoying the new addition to our little family (see our previous post about welcoming Valentín!), and José and I have been designing the newest additions to the Paloma's Nest collection!

Just in time for Easter, we have created a darling Easter Basket Tote (which also looks great all year 'round as extra storage in a child's room); it's ready to be filled with our personalized wooden eggs, a yo yo,  and (of course) a chocolate bunny! Also new for Spring are the custom wooden puzzle (makes for a sweet surprise marriage proposal, baby gender reveal, or fun gift for a child or adult ) and this delicate jewelry box that features a personalized ceramic plaque on the lid. Head on over to the shop and see all that is new and fresh for Spring!

The Paloma's Nest 2011 Holiday Collection is Here!

Posted on October 24, 2011

It's with full, happy hearts that we introduce you to this year's annual Holiday Collection!

The 2011 Holiday Collection is our largest yet (since we started the annual tradition back in 2008) and this year we offer over 40 new, innovative, modern heirloom designs that we hope will find a place in your family for generations to come.

Featuring Ornaments, Decorations, Ribbons/Cards/Wrap, and Keepsake Gifts, entirely handcrafted in wood, clay, and cloth, the 2011 Holiday Collection includes collaborations with some wonderful designers such as Agnes Blum of Knock-Knocking, Julianna Swaney of Oh My Cavalier, and Moya Minns of MM Ink. We also partnered with our dear friend, Gretchen Brossa, who brought her professional sewing skills to the studio to create our new personalized Christmas Stockings, limited edition Tree Skirts, and darling Zippered Pouches. (Over the next month I'll share some stories about these artists and our collaborations with you here on the blog!)

So, grab a cup of tea or cocoa, feast your eyes on our pride and joy, and find the perfect thing to add to your collection this year. The Holiday Collection is available now on our main site palomasnest.com, in our Etsy Shop, and in our Austin and Chattanooga brick & mortar locations. We are truly looking forward to you seeing all that we have been working on for the past year, and we hope to exceed your every expectation.

Enjoy, and be merry!
